Research related to the semantic Web in the THINC lab focuses on automated alignment of ontologies and development of a novel semantics based querying environment for biological data. The semantic Web is an initiative to make the information on the Web more meaningful to programs in addition to humans. Ontologies, which are structured representations of knowledge, are emerging as the cornerstones of the semantic Web. They represent a consensus on knowledge and serve as useful resources for annotating data thereby facilitating integration, interoperability and machine understandability.
